Architecture of Infinity

How can structures that occupy defined, inflexible spaces make us feel transcendent? What can chapels do to become contemplative spaces? How can a barrier provide unrestricted liberty? Director Christoph Schaub sees remarkable churches, both old and future, and encounters pieces of art that transport him to the skies and all the way down to the ocean's depths, all inspired by vivid childhood memories. He tries to make sense of the world and decipher our spiritual experiences using the seemingly abstract concepts of light, time, rhythm, sound, and shape with the help of architects Peter Zumthor, Peter Märkli, and lvaro Siza Vieira, artists James Turrell and Cristina Iglesias, and drummer Sergé "Jojo" Mayer. This contemplative inquiry becomes a multisensory experience thanks to the excellent cinematography.
