In a modest theater in New York City, an elderly magician concocts a diabolical scheme to save a piece of old New York by conjuring some genuine dark magic. His plan relies on the use of voodoo. In Onur Tukel's most recent film, BLACK MAGIC FOR WHITE BOYS, a weird comedy adventure about gentrification, race, and bodily autonomy in New York City, harsh reality and fantastic illusions come together. This is a film that Onur Tukel has directed. Tukel has entirely redesigned a project that was previously presented at Tribeca in 2017 as a four-episode series into a nasty and deliciously odd dark comedy. This was accomplished by adding over 50 minutes of new video to the film. This is an intimate, low-budget allegory about the changing character of New York City, and it balances a strain of goofy sweetness with a certain amount of edgy misanthropy in its narrative.
