Complies with the story of Miguel Santos, a. k. a. Sugar (Algenis Perez Soto), a Dominican bottle from San Pedro de Macorís, battling to make it to the major leagues and also pull himself and his family members out of hardship. Playing skillfully at a baseball academy in the Dominican Republic, Miguel ultimately obtains his break at age 19 when he developments to the United States' minor league system; but when his play on the pile falters, he begins to examine the dedication of his life's passion.
